At the preschool level, art is all about experiment with different materials and colours. Children are just beginning to communicate and allowing them to create using different things helps boost their creativity and imagination. We did some such experimental art activities this week which were a huge success with the kids. When we did our counting book on the very hungry caterpillar, we made some caterpillars crawling in the grass. We used forks to paint the grass. Kids loved drawing parallel lines using the fork and made lots of green grass all over their paper.
We then made the caterpillars using paper cups. The kids had to dip their cups in different colours of paint and make intersecting circles for the caterpillar.
Not many managed to intersect the circles – I guess, it was more like lots of tiny caterpillars crawling in the grass! A great way to explore circles nonetheless.
Another day we did some balloon painting. We dipped inflated balloons in paint and made little imprints using just two colours – pink and green.
The end results were so beautiful – star like imprints merged into a collage.
One kid excitedly shouted out – “I made a butterfly!” Yes you did – little artist.
